During my time as a Gestalt Therapist, I would often ask clients if they danced. You need to understand that they came looking for help. They wanted to be better. Whether that was dealing with guilt, pain, emotional trauma, abuse, etc.
“Did you ever dance?” Male or female, most would say yes, with a friend or partner.
Then came the challenge. Not an easy thing to do: “Right now, get up and dance to your Spirit. Not with your spirit but TO your Spirit.” Wow! Dealing with the issues that came up with that challenge was powerful and insightful, and eventually they did their amazing dance.
2 Samuel 6:14-16 (NASB)
14 And David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod.
15 So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouting and the sound of the trumpet.
16 Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
Worship and Dancing often means overcoming that opposing spirit. Realizing it is there and overcoming it for the joy of the Lord.
