My Gestalt Therapy practice had come to an end.
The day after I asked the Lord to transform my life I announced to all my clients that what we were doing in therapy was not the answer. The answer to all their needs was Jesus Christ. Some were angry with me and others were curious. Several asked Christ to come into their hearts and with these few, a prayer group and bible study was started. My whole model of Gestalt therapy was ditched, and we began praying for each other. No one told us to do that, but we felt the Lord was leading us in that direction.
Some things I knew were right, though. The emphasis in Gestalt is on bringing everything into the present. What seemed to give new meaning to prayer for me was talking to the Lord that was present. He was not in some far-off place or unable to see or understand what was going on. For people that had never prayed before, this was an incredible experience to talk to the Lord and sense His presence.
The Lord ministered to many during this time. Although regular clients stopped coming for therapy, which I advised, many people came off the street for prayer and counsel. Katherine helped to start this by telling all her new friends to come for prayer. She would often come and pray with them. My income level dropped drastically, and I started painting houses to make ends meet.
