Some important things to consider…..
The role of liberalism, dispensationalists, etc, have had a profound effect on the church, and yet God breaks through this unbelief about the gifts of the Spirit. I was saved and filled with the Spirit in a church that denied the gifts of the Sprit were for today, so when the Lord saved me and filled me with the Spirit, there was no frame of reference, except the Bible, to understand what the Lord was doing in my life. Within a week, I knew healing and deliverance were part of the Lord’s call on my life in ministering to others. It’s like “signs and wonders” exploded in my life. Thank you Lord. And now….forty years later….another explosion.
Luke 9:56 “For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them”. The point that the original Greek translates “save”, sozo, “..refers specifically to the forgiveness of sin, the healing of disease and the deliverance from torment. That is salvation.” That the Lord came to save our Spirit, Soul and Body.
The answer to all our needs is Jesus Christ. Romans 14:17“For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Spirit.” Righteousness deals with the sin issue (spirit); Peace is the answer to torment (soul); and Joy – affliction of the body.
Authority is our position in Christ, but we must wait for Power, by the Holy Spirit.
After reading on the importance of prayer, and the need to “earnestly desire” the spiritual gifts, I realize, in some respects, that God has graciously just given me some gifts that He made a part of my “dna”, and even prior to my being saved and filled with the Spirit, I knew that I had a “gift” to counsel/minister to others. I could “feel” or “sense” or “see” and “hear” the opposing forces in a person’s life. I never knew what this was until the Lord saved me. Now, I understand the need to pursue….earnestly…..whole heartedly…with prayer and fasting….asking and seeking God’s words, dreams and visions, for others.
